Vegetable Farming in Hastings

Targeting 10 women-led households in Hastings Community, this group established 25 functional gardens using locally sourced tyres and sacks as planting containers — producing peppers, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, carrots, and more. All participants were trained in climate-smart agriculture, water-efficient irrigation, and basic crop management.

Working directly with Dr June Primary School at Sky Street to establish productive gardens within the school compound. Partnering with teachers and schoolchildren, they are integrating environmental education into everyday learning and connecting school communities to sustainable food production, biodiversity, and responsible land stewardship.

Equipping community women with practical knowledge to identify risks, prepare for climate shocks, and respond effectively, while building a locally owned resilience framework.
